'Building a business happens in the context of life'.
I heard this on a course I attended recently and, as a new mum with a new business, it really resonated.
I just never felt like I had the time to achieve what I wanted at the pace I wanted to go at. Of course, my 25 year old self had more time, I could have progressed way quicker, worked 24/7 on my business if that’s what I desired, but that is not where I am right now and reaching my goals very much happens in the context of life as it is now.
In the context of nursery runs, limited childcare, appointments, admin, family time, holidays, social arrangements, pregnancy, fatigue.
This is not just true in business.
Your postnatal recovery and rebuilding your strength also happens in the content of your life.
Every aspect of your life will impact how fast you can achieve your goals and we have to accept that we are all on our own journeys. How long it takes will be unique to you and your life.
You have so many competing priorities as a new mum. Your postnatal journey will happen in the context of your individual baby, your support system, your sleep, your overall health, your energy levels, your work life.
Everything in your life will impact how quickly you can see results.
So don’t give yourself a hard time if you’re not progressing as quickly as you’d like to or as quickly as someone else.
No two journeys will look the same, and nor should they, so don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s.
Your postnatal journey is not a race. Take it at your own pace.
Take steps forwards towards your goals (however big or small they may seem) and try to enjoy the process rather than worrying about the end goal.
